We Are Go Indies!

Erik Tokle, HMFIC

With a background that includes everything from banjo to beatmaking to backend integration, Erik (etokle) is the Jack of All Things Go Indies. He's been a pauper, a poet, a pirate, a pencil... well, you get the idea.

Erik brings to Go Indies a love for all things obscure and all things tech. Serving as a developer at companies ranging from start-ups to those on the Fortune 100 has given Erik the ability to actually *see* the bullshit before he smells it.

Erik (an Aquarius) enjoys long walks on the beach, long-stem red roses and Smooth Jazz, and can't stand rude people or smoking. His favorite color is blue.

Alicia Clough, Creative Genius

Alicia is a force of nature. Able to conjure compelling copy with a mere glance at her keyboard, she possess an innate talent for ripping the clarity out of pages of dense legal-ese. She is currently kicking ass and taking names at USC Law, yet maintains the warm aura and aesthetics of a passionate humanities major.

Alicia can also beat you at Ms. Pacman (on the fast setting). She did not write these paragraphs.

Scott Silletta, Consigliore

A longtime collaborator, Scott possess the energy, insight, and tenacity that nearly always guarantee success (or jail time). The owner of Orange Crush, a successful Orange County recording studio, Scott has worked with countless bands: writing, producing, performing, and marketing.

Scott believes the children are the future. He is also a level 57 Chaotic-Good Dwarven Wizard.

Brandis Rodriguez, Design Consultant

Possessed of a design presence far above her 5'1" stature, Brandis brings the art of design to the design of the art of Go Indies. She is currently hard at work on the newest latest design for Go Indies, which will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Brandis is also the cutest pregnant mama you'd ever hope to see.

Technical Specs

Network Infrastructure

Intel Dual Xeon Servers

Our servers run Dual Intel Xeon processors with 2-4GB of RAM and RAID protected hard drives providing the power, versatility, and reliability required for high end servers. The combination provides outstanding performance and headroom for peak workloads, resulting in faster response times.

Raid Disk Mirroring

RAID is short for Redundant Array of Independent Disks and used to mirror data on two disk drives simultaneously to ensure data integrity. Disk mirroring protects from loss of data by instantly switching to the other disk with no interruption in service if one of the disk drives fail without requiring data restoration from a backup.

RAID also provides twice the read rate of a single disk to increase performance. When multiple requests are made for the same data, demand can be distributed between two disks therefore decreasing response time for data access.

Linux Operating System

We exclusively use the Linux (Enterprise/Fedora/CentOS) operating system on our servers. Linux is one of the most popular server operating systems in the industry today due to it’s scalability and track record as the most stable operating system on the market. It is constantly under active development which insures a reliable, secure, and robust platform for web hosting environments.

Datacenter

We operate out of the world class NAC datacenter with multiple tier one backbone providers including Level3, AboveNet, UUNET, InterNAP, Genuity and over 300 peering points and transit providers spanning three countries within North America and Europe.

Introducing the Go Indies! Player

So you've seen the swell player they give you over at MySpace, and sure: it's pretty cool. The Go Indies! player is a lot like that, but it's yours -- no additional charges, no song limits (well, within reason), no signup fee. Your hosted site comes with a fully functional player already installed (and if you need help we're here to do just that).

Fairly Arbitrary Questions

Q. Is this website ever gonna be finished?
A. No, probably not.

Q. What if I don't really have a band and just want to host my website with you?
A. Far be it from us to turn away paying customers. Go for it, kid. Just no porn, ok?

Q. Can you help me set up my site?
A. Sure. that's really what we're all about. I mean, if you want a crappy looking band site you can just get a free one at MySpace, right?

Q. Is this the end of the FAQ page?
A. Not by a longshot. We'll add more as more are added.

Independent Web Hosting for Independant Whatever

Hi, we're Go Indies.

We host websites for independant bands, labels, and visual artists. Simple. Easy. Nothing mind-blowing about that... we believe that setting up a site should be simple.

More importantly, we believe in the independant spirit of the community. We don't think MySpace is the place for indie bands and businesses -- helping support dear old Rupert Murdoch and his squad of Fox News "journalists" just isn't worth a bit of free server space. Sure, a TON of people are on there, but we believe that, like shopping at Walmart, some things just aren't worth the money saved.

Every band needs pretty much the same thing in a website: a way for fans to hear your music, a list of show dates, a photo gallery, and some add-ons, like message boards and shopping carts to sell your merch. Every hosting account at Go Indies comes with all this (and more) included.

What's In It for You?

Each one of our hosting plans comes with a pre-installed mp3 player, so your site visitors can hear your music without the hassle of downloading it. Basically you upload your tracks to your website and they play.

Besides that, each hosting plan comes with a pre-installed image gallery. Once again, all you do is upload your images to your website, click a link, and hey, your pics are organized in a clean, simple Flash gallery.

Also, all of our plans come with a ton of scripts for message boards, shopping carts, chatrooms, mailing lists -- the works. It's all available to you and the Go Indies team is here to help you set it up. Here's more info on all the included features.

What We're Not

We're not a multi-national media conglomerate trying to stick our hands deeper into the Internet pie. We're not a quasi-political organization or a group of knee-jerk activists. We're not a religious sect nor fascinated by UFOs. We're not a standard-issue web-hosting company that just wants your credit card number and hopes you stay put and shut up. We believe in the independant community and think you deserve better!

We've attempted to simplify the set up and usage of your website, but we've got a full-time support staff to help out with any technical questions in case you get stuck. Beyond that, we're happy to assist with setting up your shopping carts, message boards or other software.

All of us at Go Indies are working musicians, students, artists, and active participants in the indie scene. We've put our service together based on years of experience setting up our own sites -- back in 1996 there was no MySpace!

This is just the beginning for Go Indies. Soon we'll be adding even more features to help your band get where you want to be. For now, thanks for checking us out!
